The warm summer mornings have been pushed aside for the frosty ones here in Kansas. I love the autumn and all of the changing colors and hurried pace of the animals preparing for another cold winter. I like hearing the crunch beneath my boots of the fallen leaves as I walk out of my front door and around my ten acres. I myself would just as soon spend my winters in a warmer climate but Kansas is my home and I will endure yet another round of frozen doors, snow banks in front of my garage door and layered clothing to go check on the mail. Halloween is approaching and then Thanksgiving, a time for everyone to count their blessings and be thankful for that which the Almighty has blessed them with. I will be spending this Thanksgiving with my mother having a quiet and non stressful day reminiscing about Thanksgiving from the past when all of my family could celebrate together. Although they will not be with us physically I know that my father, sister and grandmother will be with us in spirit.
I have started another book which is about the gold rush days and it is coming along nicely. So far I am calling this book Cassie's Gold but that could change before the book is finished. The main characters are Virgil and Cassie Hollister and they are from Jackson, Mississippi. The have made the trek to California in search of striking it rich to have an easier life for themselves. The book seems to be writing itself! I find this time period fascinating and have been doing a lot of research between 1848 and 1850. What strong and courageous people these pioneers were to live in the horrific conditions with danger around every corner.
I will keep you posted on this site and my Face Book page under, Barbara Sue Sweetwood, on how the book is coming along.
Until next time, "Trick or Treat" and keep reading!
Best regards,
Barbara Sue
